(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving border disputes through peaceful and legal means, emphasizing that taking a case to court should not be seen as provocation, but as a responsible, lawful path.
In a special address delivered Monday, Samdech Techo Hun Sen stated, “Anyone who avoids the court is admitting guilt. Honestly, only thieves fear the court. If you are innocent, you should have no fear of the court.”
He called on the international community to support Cambodia’s efforts to settle its border dispute with Thailand at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), expressing hope that nations uphold principles of international law and reject the use or threat of force.
Samdech Techo gave a concrete example of ASEAN countries: Malaysia and Indonesia jointly brought their territory dispute to the courts, as did Singapore and Malaysia.
The Senate president underlined that Cambodia and Thailand share a border of more than 800 kilometres, yet disputes persist in the four aforementioned areas.
It should also be noted that on 15 June 2025, the Royal Government of Cambodia officially submitted a letter to the International Court of Justice seeking resolution of the border dispute around Ta Moan Thom Temple, Ta Moan Tauch Temple, Ta Krabei Temple, and the Emerald Triangle — coinciding with the 63rd anniversary of the ICJ’s historic ruling in Cambodia’s favour regarding the Preah Vihear Temple case on 15 June 1962.
