(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President Samdech Techo Hun Sen called on Cambodian citizens to support and use locally made products, describing it as an act of nationalism that strengthens national identity and self-reliance.

Samdech Techo spoke on Monday (16 June) during a special address.

He also urged the public to remain calm regarding the ongoing issues and appealed to local vendors not to take advantage of the situation by raising prices, warning that such actions would negatively affect consumers.

“Let me say this clearly: if the border remains closed, Cambodia is highly likely to suspend imports of Thai goods,” Samdech Techo Hun Sen warned. “I urge the Cambodian people to remain calm. The current restrictions on fruit and vegetable imports must not be used as an excuse to raise prices. Support our local products—they are safer and free from harmful chemicals.”

He added, “From the beginning, I’ve warned against allowing conflict to spread from one area or sector to another. Unfortunately, the other side sees this restraint as weakness—a serious misjudgement that only causes broader repercussions across multiple sectors.”

In his special message, Samdech Techo Hun Sen also announced that Cambodia will allow a 24-hour window for Thailand to restore normal border operations. If the Thai side fails to act within that timeframe, Cambodia will move to suspend all imports of Thai fruits and vegetables through every border checkpoint.
