(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet strongly criticized certain Cambodian politicians living abroad for exploiting a time of national tension for political gain, accusing them of attacking the government and demoralizing the armed forces while the nation faces foreign aggression.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (Jun. 17) at the Closing of Extraordinary General Assembly of Cambodia Scouts in Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet addressed criticisms raised after Cambodia submitted its letter to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), saying, “The real problem lies with you — constantly undermining each other. While the nation must stand united to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, you seize the opportunity to score political points. It is the same old tactic used by those politicians back in 2008–2009.”

The premier asserted that such politicians consistently oppose national interests, thrive on creating controversy, and deliberately aim to lower the morale of Cambodia’s armed forces. “Eventually, when we do submit to the ICJ, they complain again. If we had not submitted, they would criticize that too. It never ends,” he added.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei also criticized calls from these groups demanding the government reveal maps and documents submitted to the ICJ. He urged these politicians to consider the national interest first. He explained that Cambodia chose the ICJ path to avoid war and urged the public to support the government’s peaceful efforts.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet praised other politicians who understood the context, acted responsibly, and did not adopt extremist views like veteran politicians who oppose national interests at all costs.
