(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet appealed to opposition politicians to refrain from inciting the public over the Cambodia-Thailand border issue, reiterating the Royal Government’s commitment to resolving the dispute peacefully and avoiding bloodshed.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (Jun. 17) at the Closing of Extraordinary General Assembly of Cambodia Scouts in Phnom Penh.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet emphasized that the government's decision to take the case to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) stems from a desire to protect Cambodia’s territorial integrity through legal and peaceful means—not military confrontation.

“I ask some of our fellow politicians to consider the national interest. The government is doing this for the country—for our territorial integrity. We want to win this case without shedding blood on the battlefield, which is why we went to the ICJ,” he said.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet reminded opposition politicians to let the government and its officials carry out this sensitive task responsibly. He cautioned against taking advantage of the situation to gain political mileage or create public confusion, which could affect national unity.

In a direct message to the opposition, the premier added, “Sometimes staying silent does not mean you have lost.” He called on the people to give space and encouragement to our soldiers who are guarding the border. We need unity and preparedness in case the other side resorts to armed conflict.
