(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet issued a firm statement in response to Thailand’s unilateral border closure, announcing that Cambodia has suspended all imports of Thai vegetables and fruits through every border checkpoint as a reciprocal measure.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (Jun. 17) at the Closing of Extraordinary General Assembly of Cambodia Scouts in Phnom Penh.

“The Thai military closed the border unilaterally, so they can just reopen it unilaterally, and that would be the end of it. Cambodia will follow suit. There is nothing complicated about it,” the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet reiterated that Cambodia has no intention of harming the livelihoods of people living along the border or disrupting economic and commercial activities. However, as the Thai military closed the border without prior consultation, Cambodia had no choice but to respond accordingly.

“With regard to this border closure, let us be clear: we are not negotiating on this point. But if Thailand reopens the border unilaterally, we will reopen ours as well, so that the flow of goods to the people can resume as normal. That is our position,” the premier added.

It should be noted that on 17 June 2025, following the expiry of a 24-hour notice issued by the Royal Government of Cambodia, Cambodia officially suspended all imports of Thai vegetables and fruits through its border checkpoints.
