(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed deep disappointment over remarks made by certain individuals claiming that the Cambodia–Thailand border issue is merely a political performance or staged drama. He categorically rejected such claims.
The premier spoke on Tuesday (Jun. 17) at the Closing of Extraordinary General Assembly of Cambodia Scouts in Phnom Penh.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet called on all Cambodians regardless of political affiliation to place the national interest above all else and continue to trust the government in handling the situation, especially in its efforts to bring the case before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). He noted that certain related documents cannot yet be made public.
“Some people are posting on Facebook saying we are staging a confrontation with Thailand at the border and closing crossings as part of some scripted game between the Cambodian and Thai governments. That is absolutely false. They think closing the border is just a show. I find such comments truly disheartening," the premier underscored.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added that he preferred not to respond at length to such accusations, emphasising that now is not the time for internal disputes or division among Cambodians. Instead, it is a time for unity as the nation faces external pressure over border claims from a neighbouring country.
