(Siem Reap): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet revealed that Thai soldiers panicked and fled from one machine gun, which was subsequently recovered by the Cambodian army. The Cambodian forces then contacted the Thai soldiers to retrieve it, emphasising that Cambodian soldiers are honest and have no intention of keeping what does not belong to them.

The premier spoke on Monday (Jun. 23) at the closing of the Central Committee Meeting of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) in Siem Reap province.

"While patrolling one day in the Phnom Kmouch area, I asked Srey Deuk about a Thai military camp that had been set up. When we moved to chase them out, Srey Deuk reported they had left behind a machine gun. Soldiers are taught from day one that every weapon is like a wife as it must always be with them. Abandoning it shows a lack of discipline or care. They took their gear but forgot the machine gun. Still, we Cambodians called them to come retrieve it, because we have no interest in keeping what doesn’t belong to us,” the premier stated.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added that war is inevitable to use infantry and tanks, so determining victory or defeat does not depend on weapons alone. He advised not to underestimate Cambodia through pressure by the use of military means.
