(Siem Reap): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet acknowledged the rising spirit of nationalism among the Cambodian people, reflecting the unity of the nation as one.

Samdech Thipadei further stated that this surge in Cambodian nationalism is a response to actions by the Thai side, which have sought to provoke issues on multiple fronts. These include using nationalist movements to create conflict with Cambodia, applying economic pressure, and employing military force to threaten the country.

The premier spoke on Monday (Jun. 23) at the closing of the Central Committee Meeting of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) in Siem Reap province.

“I recognise the patriotism of Cambodia and the strong love for our nation among our people at this time. Why is this nationalism so pronounced? It is not because the Royal Government is inciting the people, no! The heightened nationalism is not created by Cambodia but by the other side [Thailand] and the three ‘arrows’ they have unleashed. First, the use of extreme nationalist sentiment to gain political advantage in Thailand, which has spilled over into Cambodia. Second, the use of economic means to apply pressure on us. Third, the deployment of armed forces to threaten Cambodia,” the premier underscored.

Regarding the first point, Samdech Thipadei explained that since early 2025, Thailand has stirred nationalist sentiment over issues such as Koh Kood and Ta Moan Thom Temple, claiming these areas as their own through a unilaterally drawn map. This has been used to bolster domestic Thai politics but has impacted Cambodia, including incidents such as the expulsion of Cambodian citizens for singing the national anthem at Ta Moan Thom Temple.

The second point concerns the use of economic tactics as a weapon against Cambodia, including threats to cut off electricity, internet access, and fuel supplies.

The third point involves military actions, including incursions and the shooting of a Cambodian soldier in the Emerald Triangle area, as well as the unilateral closure of border crossings under the pretext of security.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet underlined that the Cambodian nationalist movement exists solely to protect the nation, its territory, and its sovereignty.
