(Banteay Meanchey): Cambodian and Thai authorities agreed to allow a three-hour window from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday (Jun. 24) for citizens from both countries to return to their homelands via the Poipet International Border Checkpoint. This measure comes ahead of the complete closure of the border crossing, which will suspend all transit.
A report from Banteay Meanchey province stated that the decision to allow this limited timeframe was made following a meeting and exchange of views between the governors of Banteay Meanchey and Thailand’s Sa Kaeo provinces. However, the passage will not be open to foreign nationals who are not Cambodian or Thai.
Vehicles from both countries will also be allowed to return home during this time, but the transport of goods will be strictly prohibited. Meanwhile, for other local checkpoints situated between Banteay Meanchey and Sa Kaeo provinces, authorities agreed to allow crossings only between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM today, after which all cross-border movement will be halted.
