(Kandal): Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed that Cambodia’s National Police play a critical role in serving the nation and the people, contributing to the maintenance of peace and stability. He emphasized that the police have stood shoulder to shoulder with the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity against foreign encroachment.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Jun. 26) at the graduation ceremony at the Police Academy of Cambodia in Kandal Province.

Prime Minister Hun Manet noted that the National Police Academy has shown remarkable progress and is undergoing meaningful reforms, characterized by strong commitment and a sense of responsibility worthy of recognition and encouragement.

He further stated that human resource development at the academy has yielded promising results year by year, in line with the operational demands of the nation’s law enforcement bodies, despite ongoing challenges and obstacles. These issues, he said, would continue to be addressed progressively and in order of priority, reflecting the growing importance of the academy as a vital institution for developing future police professionals with quality education, skills, and ethical standards to serve the country in accordance with government policy and national societal needs.

Prime Minister Hun Manet stated, “The National Police have numerous roles and responsibilities. While the armed forces have specific defence missions, the police take on a broader spectrum, such as border protection, judicial policing, immigration, identity services, requiring the comprehensive training of qualified personnel.”

In this context, he expressed gratitude for the dedication of all National Police officers who have diligently fulfilled their duties, including defending sovereignty, engaging with neighbouring countries, delivering all forms of public service, maintaining peace and stability, and ensuring vital community-level services from local police posts to the national level.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also highlighted the contributions of traffic police officers who, regardless of harsh weather conditions, continue to work tirelessly to manage traffic flow and public order on the roads. Though certain areas of policing still require improvement, he acknowledged the commitment and sacrifices of the National Police as essential to public service delivery.

Samdech Thipadei continued, “On the frontline, the National Police stand alongside the army to protect territorial integrity. This reflects the strong spirit of cooperation among all our armed forces in defending the homeland as Cambodians in the face of external threats, an important national mission.”
