(Takeo): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet highlighted that Cambodia is waiting to engage in dialogue with a legitimate authority in Thailand to resolve the ongoing border issues between the two countries.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (Jul. 1) during the National Fish Day celebration and the release of approximately 1.5 million fish into Tonle Sap Lake, held in Bati district, Takeo province.

His comments come amid growing concerns that Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra currently lacks the necessary authority to command the military and govern effectively.

“We are not playing games. When we engage, we do so seriously. In Cambodia, there is no confusion with different people issuing contradictory statements or four separate letters saying different things. We are waiting for someone with real power, someone with the legitimate authority to open or close border checkpoints,” the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei added that military-level negotiations can only proceed once border checkpoints are reopened to normal operations. He expressed doubt about Thailand’s reliability, noting that in the past, documents regarding the opening and closing of border checkpoints had been issued by multiple individuals, creating uncertainty.

“In Cambodia, we have never had conflicting voices. Senate President Hun Sen may have expressed his views on political matters, but political decisions and official state directives rest with the prime minister. And when I give an order, I do not do it as a joke,” Samdech Thipadei added.
