(Prey Veng): Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen advised the Prey Veng provincial authorities to step up efforts to attract investment to the Meun Chey area, particularly in the industrial sector with an emphasis on agro-processing. This initiative aims to enhance domestic production and facilitate exports to international markets.

Samdech Techo spoke on Wednesday (Jul. 2) during a meeting with officials stationed at the international border checkpoint and inspection visit to the Meun Chey International Border Checkpoint in Prey Veng province.

“Looking ahead, the province should focus on attracting investment to this area [Meun Chey], which has the potential to become an industrial zone due to its logistical advantages and proximity to processing areas. Investors from Viet Nam could be encouraged to set up processing factories in Cambodia, utilizing Cambodia’s raw materials. This presents an opportunity to expand trade, by linking production to exports or domestic supply,” Samdech Techo underscored.

The Senate president emphasised that the opening of the border is not merely for the movement of people, but must also be leveraged to promote investment and trade activities. The trade volume between Cambodia and Viet Nam continues to grow steadily, particularly Cambodia’s exports to Viet Nam, which have significantly increased.

Furthermore, Samdech urged border officials at the Cambodia–Viet Nam gateway to build strong ties with neighbouring countries, citing the proverb, “A good neighbour is like gold; a bad neighbour is like a landmine.”
