(Prey Veng): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, encouraged all owners of PTT gas stations in Cambodia to consider sourcing fuel from countries other than Thailand, without needing to change their brand name. He added that the stations may purchase fuel from Viet Nam, Malaysia, or Singapore.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen spoke on Thursday (Jul. 3) during a meeting with students and teachers at the Chea Sim Komchaymear Education and Training Centre in Prey Veng province.

Samdech Techo explained: “PTT is a Thai state-owned company, but it can import fuel from Viet Nam, Singapore, or Malaysia and continue selling under the same name, simply avoiding supply from Thailand.”

In this context, Samdech Techo emphasized: “They issue threats; we take action. While they threaten, we move.” He outlined four key areas, namely electricity, internet, fuel, and more, where Cambodia must achieve self-reliance to counter future threats like those from Thailand. He added that despite Thai pressure, Cambodia had already acted, proving its strength and growing independence.

Despite the tensions, Samdech Techo Hun Sen reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to maintaining good relations and close friendship with Thailand. However, he stressed that the recent actions were a direct response to ongoing threats and Thailand’s unilateral closure of border checkpoints. He made clear that further dialogue would only begin once the borders are fully reopened to their pre–June 7 status.
