(Prey Veng): Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen said that Thailand has been spreading false information regarding the closure of border checkpoints between the two countries, falsely claiming that it was Cambodia that closed the border, not Thailand.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen spoke on Thursday (Jul. 3) during a meeting with students and teachers at the Chea Sim Komchaymear Education and Training Centre in Prey Veng province.
“The special envoy of the prime minister of Japan met me and said he was facing difficulties because he has investments in both Thailand and Cambodia. He told me he’s struggling to make decisions because his operations rely on the flow of goods between the two countries. For example, components produced in one country are vital for operations in the other,” Samdech Techo underscored.
Samdech Techo responded, “I told him that this is Thailand’s problem. Now go tell the Thai side to restore the previous arrangement, so it’ll be over. What’s so hard about that? If they closed or adjusted the hours, they should be the ones to reopen or re-adjust. There’s no need to come and negotiate. No! That’s not acceptable.”
Samdech Techo emphasized, “Thailand is expert at lying, not only to the Cambodian people, but also to its own citizens and the international community.”
Due to Thailand's deception and distortion of the truth, Samdech Techo Hun Sen issued a recommendation to the current Royal Government to completely ban the purchase of strategic goods from Thailand, such as electricity, internet, fuel, and gas. He warned that in the future, Thailand could weaponize these commodities as tools to pressure the Cambodian government, for example by cutting off electricity, internet, or fuel supplies, as had occurred in the past.
