(Phnom Penh): The global crude steel production in 2024 reached 1,882.6 million tonnes. Despite ongoing global economic uncertainties, the steel industry has remained resilient, with Asia continuing to dominate production.

China remains the world’s largest steel producer, accounting for over half of global output with 1,005.1 million tonnes. India follows with 149.6 million tonnes, solidifying its position as a major global player, while Japan, the US, and Russia round out the top five producers.

In terms of companies, China Baowu Group leads the global rankings with 130.09 million tonnes of output, followed by ArcelorMittal (65.0 Mt), Ansteel Group (59.55 Mt), Nippon Steel (43.64 Mt), and HBIS Group (42.28 Mt).

It is important to note that steel remains a vital component in infrastructure, construction, automotive manufacturing, and many other key sectors.
