(Kampong Speu): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that national pride lies not only in building beautiful and disciplined schools, but also in ensuring that students succeed in life 10 to 20 years into the future.

The premier spoke on Tuesday (Jul. 8) at an inauguration of educational achievements in Kampong Speu province.

“Our pride does not lie only in building clean, disciplined, and well-structured schools. True pride comes when we see the students from these schools achieve success 10 or 20 years later, because we nurtured them from a young age. That is the pride we must strive for,” the premier underscored.

The premier called on parents, guardians, communities, philanthropists, alumni, capable individuals, and grassroots working groups to continue supporting the development of the education sector at the local level. He also urged district and provincial authorities, educational departments, and relevant stakeholders to intensify their efforts in strengthening local education, emphasising that this is essential for Cambodia’s future.

Through educational development, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed hope that Cambodian children and youth who receive quality education will become key contributors to the country’s long-term progress. Educating children from an early age forms the cornerstone of a strong and resilient society.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei reaffirmed the Royal Government’s unwavering commitment to prioritising and reinforcing the education sector, even amid ongoing challenges. Education is a central focus of the first phase of the Pentagon Strategy under the seventh legislature of the National Assembly. He personally oversees reform efforts in this sector, which includes five key areas: education, healthcare, and public administration, among others.

Premier Hun Manet extended his gratitude to parents and guardians for their active role in supporting teachers and improving education. He praised model schools where effective programmes have been adopted by nearby schools through peer learning without needing directives from higher authorities. This kind of local initiative and self-driven improvement is precisely what the government seeks to foster.

In addition, Samdech Thipadei mentioned that strengthening education from early childhood by instilling discipline and providing a strong foundation of knowledge. This will create a highly capable future workforce. Teachers, he stated, are the key drivers in shaping students into valuable members of Cambodian society.

Samdech Thipadei concluded by calling for the continued strengthening of school governance through the implementation of the Model School and target School standards under the KME. This initiative aims to build a resilient, modern, and innovative provincial education system that ensures quality, efficiency, and equitable access for all learners.
