(Kampong Chhnang): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed that the national budget for the defence sector will be increased to strengthen national defence, speaking on Monday (Jul. 14) during the inauguration of achievements at the Royal Gendarmerie Training Centre (Phnom Chum Sen Reak Reay) in Kampong Chhnang Province.

Samdech Thipadei elaborated that military modernisation must progress in three core areas: infrastructure development, human resource enhancement, and equipment upgrades.

Regarding this modernisation, Samdech Thipadei underscored, “When it comes to the national budget, we must carefully consider increasing defence spending to a reasonable extent. Following the war and the implementation of the Win-win Policy, we redirected a large portion of the defence budget to prioritise social sectors such as human resource development, education, healthcare, and more. Today, as we continue progressing, national defence must once again become a priority, with spending directed in a strategic and targeted manner.”

On the occasion, the premier added that the purpose of strengthening national defence and building up the armed forces is not to seize another country’s land, but to defend Cambodia’s own. This is our mission and our organisational structure must be adjusted accordingly.
