(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Senate President, Samdech Techo Hun Sen revealed that Thaksin Shinawatra once leaked Thai government documents to him during the time when Abhisit Vejjajiva served as Thailand’s Prime Minister. Samdech Techo regarded Thaksin's action as an act of treason against his own nation.

Samdech Techo spoke on Monday (Jul. 14) during the third session of the fifth legislature of the Senate at the Senate.

“Thaksin must remember how you secretly handed me documents during Abhisit's government. Don’t be confused, Thaksin. You’re mistaken in your remarks. Yesterday, I posted a message, and today I will add more. Don’t misunderstand and regret having trusted the wrong person. You’re gravely mistaken. Without Hun Sen, you wouldn't have been able to return to your homeland, nor even to Southeast Asia. But now you want me to reveal the documents you sent me concerning Abhisit Vejjajiva. You have committed treason against your own country. I have the documents. I could speak for three to four hours on this,” Samdech Techo underscored.

Senate president continued, “Last night, I was browsing TikTok and saw a clip from 2010, when I announced that I would not accept Thai funds for constructing National Road 68. Abhisit telephoned to ask why I refused the funding. I told him I declined because I had obtained reliable information that he had frozen the funds […] with the intention of using them against Cambodia. Where did that information come from? It came from Thaksin, who secretly gave me the documents. So, Thaksin, don’t be confused or disoriented. Your own child insulted me, and that’s why I’m taking this step. Both I and Nikkei newspaper have predicted why I acted this way. Ultimately, Nikkei correctly concluded that I did this to resolve unresolved border issues while I still had power and that’s accurate. I want to resolve it.”

According to Samdech Techo Hun Sen, he does not seek war. Raising the issue of Preah Vihear Temple and surrounding sites such as Ta Moan Thom Temple, Ta Moan Tauch Temple, and Ta Krabei Temple before the International Court of Justice in The Hague represents a peaceful path forward. He stated that bilateral negotiations or legal proceedings are both peaceful options, as there are no better alternatives. He also called on the international community to respect Cambodia’s position as they do international law.
