(Phnom Penh): The ICT Festival was held today at Kandal Regional Teacher Training Center (RTTC) to celebrate the achievements of Cambodia’s growing ICT education sector. The festival brought together 100 students from ICT leading schools across the country and 20 ICT teachers, who participated in an ICT contest and best-practice sharing sessions. Organized jointly by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS) and KOICA, the event aimed to motivate students, educators, and key stakeholders driving ICT advancement in schools.
The event featured an ICT contest where students demonstrated their digital skills, and a showcase of effective teaching practices by ICT teachers. Notably, students responded with great enthusiasm to an advanced coding education program delivered by the Department of Digital Technology (DDT) under MoEYS. At the closing ceremony, Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of MoEYS, and Moonjung Choi, KOICA Country Director, jointly presented awards to outstanding students and teachers, encouraging all participants to continue their journey in ICT learning and teaching.
This festival marks a significant milestone in the broader ICT capacity-building project jointly implemented by KOICA and MoEYS. Since its launch in 2021, the project has contributed meaningfully to strengthening digital education nationwide. To date, it has established ICT Labs in four Regional Teacher Training Centers (RTTCs) and 20 ICT leading schools, while building a more dynamic and inclusive digital learning environment.
One of the project’s key achievements is the training of teacher trainers, who are now independently leading ICT instruction across the country. Impressively, these trainers have developed nine ICT textbooks tailored for Cambodian ICT teachers, which have been officially approved by MoEYS. The project also continues to support ongoing professional development for both teacher trainers and ICT teachers.
Looking ahead, a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Workshop will be held in Phnom Penh from July 21–25, 2025, bringing together 23 teacher trainers from RTTCs and Teacher Education Colleges (TECs), along with approximately 10 MoEYS officials. This third CPD session will further strengthen ICT skills and pedagogy among key education personnel, ensuring the sustainable expansion of quality ICT education across Cambodia.
“KOICA is incredibly proud to partner with the MoEYS on this vital project,” said Moonjung Choi, KOICA Country Director for Cambodia. “The enthusiasm and talent displayed at the ICT Award Festival, coupled with the dedication seen in the ongoing professional development workshop, truly highlight Cambodia's potential in the digital age. We are committed to supporting the sustainable growth of ICT education, empowering both students and teachers for a brighter future.”
“The ICT Award Festival and the subsequent professional development workshop are testament to our unwavering commitment to enhancing ICT education across Cambodia,” stated Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of MoEYS. “Witnessing the innovation and dedication of our young learners and educators is truly inspiring. These initiatives are crucial for equipping our students with the essential skills for the 21st century and for ensuring our teachers remain at the forefront of educational excellence.”
