(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that this July marks a highly significant period for the Cambodian nation, as three national heritage sites have been recognized and inscribed on the World Heritage List.

The premier spoke on Friday (Jul. 18) during a celebration of the inscription of “Cambodian Memorial Sites: From Centres of Repression to Places of Peace and Reflection” on the UNESCO World Heritage List, held at the National Olympic Stadium.

Samdech Thipadei highlighted that Cambodia’s three heritage sites inscribed in the World Heritage List are:

1. Preah Vihear Temple, inscribed on 7 July 2008

2. Temple Zone of Sambor Prei Kuk, inscribed on 8 July 2017

3. Cambodian Memorial Sites: From Centres of Repression to Places of Peace and Reflection, inscribed on 11 July 2025.

According to Prime Minister Hun Manet, the Win-win Policy and the supreme sacrifices made by Samdech Techo Hun Sen brought a decisive end to the genocidal regime and the prolonged civil wars that repeatedly plagued Cambodia over the past five centuries.

The Royal Government has remained steadfast in its mission to pursue justice and international recognition of the Khmer Rouge’s atrocities, notably through the successful establishment of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal. This tribunal operated for 16 years (2006–2022) to prosecute the regime’s senior leaders and deliver long-awaited justice for its victims.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stressed that the transformation of the so-called “killing fields” into a land of peace that symbolised by the recent inscription of the Cambodian Memorial Sites on the World Heritage List that holds deep emotional and historical significance for all Cambodians. It is a vital act of remembrance for the world, not only for Cambodians but for all of humanity.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei affirmed that today’s ceremony is both a tribute to the countless victims of Cambodia’s tragic past and a powerful testament to the Royal Government’s enduring commitment to future generations. He underlined the importance of preserving historical memory, learning from the past, and safeguarding peace as an invaluable national treasure.
