(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his profound gratitude and high appreciation to the ministries, relevant institutions, and all working groups for their support in the successful preparation and submission of the inscription documents for “Cambodian Memorial Sites: From Centres of Repression to Places of Peace and Reflection".

The premier spoke on Friday (Jul. 18) during a celebration of the inscription of “Cambodian Memorial Sites: From Centres of Repression to Places of Peace and Reflection” on the UNESCO World Heritage List, held at the National Olympic Stadium.

Samdech Thipadei emphasised that for future generations, this site is not just a symbol of the past for those who endured the dark regime, but also a heritage belonging to the youth of today. He called on young people to study and learn from it and to become future guardians of Cambodia, united in spirit, with strength, determination, and an unwavering will to safeguard the nation’s freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, pillars that ensure peace and sustainable development for the country and its people.

“I extend my heartfelt thanks and highest appreciation to the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, the inter-ministerial committee, technical working groups, authorities at all levels, especially Phnom Penh Municipality, Kampong Chhnang and Kampong Speu provinces as well as international partners, including the UNESCO Phnom Penh Office, the World Heritage Committee (WHC), international expert bodies such as ICOMOS and ICCROM, KOICA, GIZ-CPS, specialized experts, and all dignitaries who contributed to the successful inscription of Cambodian Memorial Sites: From Centres of Repression to Places of Peace and Reflection," the premier underscored.

Samdech Thipadei also expressed gratitude to the teams who organized and widely promoted the event, particularly the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), which consistently plays a core role in national events and serves as a powerful force channelling youthful patriotism and commitment across all social strata. He also acknowledged the armed forces who stand ever ready to defend the nation’s sovereignty and territorial unity, as well as relevant ministries and institutions, artists, media networks, and all compatriots both present at the event and following from afar—united under the banner of “One Khmer.”

Furthermore, the prime minister extended his sincere thanks, praise, and appreciation to the people of Cambodia, including monks, laypersons, students, political parties, and civil society who actively celebrated across the country. From educational institutions to public and private entities, they participated by beating drums, gongs, and other traditional instruments, reinforcing the national stance against the horrors of war and genocide, and underscoring the critical importance of protecting peace as a legacy for future generations.
