(Phnom Penh): As of 19 July 2025, law enforcement across 15 provinces and the capital conducted coordinated raids on 52 locations, arresting 2,767 suspects, including 843 Chinese nationals. Eleven key suspects have been referred to court for legal proceedings.
Following these results, on the morning of 20 July 2025, Chhay Sinarith, Chairman of the Secretariat of the Committee for Combating Technology-Related Scams (CCTS), met with Yin Guohai, Deputy Director General of China’s Criminal Investigation Department.
Yin Guohai praised the Cambodian government’s strong commitment and significant achievements in the recent crackdown on online scams, reaffirming China’s readiness to continue supporting and cooperating with Cambodia to combat and eliminate technology-related scams.
Chhay Sinarith, for his part, outlined the Cambodian government’s campaign, highlighting the crackdown results and legal cases referred to the courts. He welcomed technical cooperation, capacity building, and support from partner countries to enhance the effectiveness of these operations, while expressing gratitude to China for its continued collaboration.
Both sides reviewed past cooperation and agreed to strengthen collaboration in information sharing, research, and investigations to dismantle scam operations, apprehend suspects, and advance legal proceedings.
In the meeting, the Chinese side pledged to prioritize and expedite the repatriation of Chinese nationals involved in crimes in Cambodia, treating this as a top priority.
