(Banteay Meanchey): For humanitarian reasons, despite Thailand’s unilateral border closure since June 7, Cambodian authorities temporarily opened the Poipet International Border Gate in Banteay Meanchey Province on 20 July 2025.
This facilitated the passage of Colonel Kanwaranun Klarnpromsuwan, Thailand’s military attaché in Phnom Penh, and two companions to travel through the Poipet–Khlong Luek checkpoint for medical treatment at Aranyaprathet Hospital in Sa Kaeo Province. The attaché is scheduled to return on 21 July 2025.
It should be noted that on June 7, 2025, the Thai government unilaterally closed all border checkpoints without prior notice or consultation with Cambodia. Cambodia implemented its border closure measures only after Thailand’s decision.
According to Prime Minister Hun Manet, the policy for reopening the border remains unchanged, outlined as follows:
1. Thailand unilaterally declares the reopening of the border first and guarantees that there will be no further unilateral closures in the future.
2. All border crossings must be reopened at the same time, with no selective or partial openings.
3. The border crossings must be reopened to their previous operational status before June 7 — that is all border crossing are open from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and for both people and goods.
Cambodia will reopen its side of the border crossings within five hours after all the procedures are completed on the Thai side.
