(Phnom Penh): CEO of MinebeaMitsumi Yoshihisa Kainuma informed Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen of a new project to inaugurate a large-scale factory in Pursat Province in December 2025. He also introduced the company’s latest product, set to launch on the international market in 2026.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen received a courtesy call by Yoshihisa Kainuma, CEO of MinebeaMitsumi, on Tuesday (Jul. 22) at the Senate.
According to the Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith, Samdech Techo expressed pleasure in meeting Yoshihisa Kainuma and his delegation once again, marking over a decade of sustained cooperation. He highlighted the Royal Government’s ongoing support for companies that have continually expanded their operations in Cambodia.
During the meeting, Yoshihisa Kainuma thanked Samdech Techo for allowing his and delegation to pay a courtesy call and extended his congratulations on Samdech’s robust health. He also thanked Samdech for his steadfast support, which he credited for contributing to MinebeaMitsumi’s success over the past 14 years, dating back to Samdech’s tenure as Prime Minister.
Yoshihisa Kainuma shared details about the plan to launch another major factory in Pursat Province this coming December and revealed the company’s latest product, scheduled for international release in 2026.
He also raised concerns over the impact of Thailand’s border closures on the company’s investment operations, particularly the logistical challenges in transporting components within the supply chain between the two countries.
For his part, Samdech Techo expressed pride in the company’s progress and recalled the company’s initial entry into Cambodia, noting the competitive environment at the time. Samdech emphasised that the Royal Government has always prioritised support for first-mover investors, regardless of their size.
The president pointed out that in Cambodia, companies regardless large or small rarely face shutdown or eviction, which has fostered investor confidence in the country’s investment climate. He also welcomed the company’s latest technological products proudly bearing the label “Made in Cambodia.”
Samdech Techo added that the expansion of operations into Pursat Province was a wise move, given the availability of necessary infrastructure, including transport and electricity supply.
Furthermore, the Senate president shared insights on Thailand’s politically motivated actions, which have led to tensions along the Cambodia-Thailand border. He reiterated calls for the Thai side to prevent localised border issues from escalating into broader disputes or spilling over into sectors such as the economy, society, and tourism.
Despite these appeals, he noted, Thailand has escalated the issue by imposing retaliatory measures involving electricity, internet, fuel, and more recently, landmine-related incidents involving Thai troops. In this context, Samdech reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to resolving disputes peacefully and urged the company to relay Cambodia’s stance to the Thai side, particularly concerning the unilateral closure of border checkpoints. He stressed the importance of returning to the pre-7 June 2025 status quo.
Finally, Samdech Techo expressed hope for an interim solution that would allow cross-border operations for foreign investors to continue smoothly and facilitate the movement of supply chains. He concluded by wishing Yoshihisa Kainuma continued success in leading MinebeaMitsumi.
