(Phnom Penh): Sin Chansereyvutha, Secretary of State and Spokesperson for Civil Aviation responded with four key points to the Thai side, following recent reports in Thai media which alleged that the branding and uniforms of flight attendants of Cambodia’s national airline, Air Cambodia, were copied from Thai Airways.
The spokesperson clarified that recent commentary observed on Thai social media highlighted similarities between the exterior design of Cambodia’s national airline aircraft and the uniforms of its in-flight crew, when compared to those of another airline in the region. Considering this, we wish to offer the following official clarification, rooted in transparency, respect, and professionalism.
1. Culturally Inspired Branding
Air Cambodia’s branding was developed through a deliberate and culturally conscious process, reflecting the Kingdom’s rich heritage and national pride. Following our rebranding from Cambodia Angkor Air to Air Cambodia Co., Ltd. on 1 January 2025, we have retained our legacy logo and signature colors—royal purple and gold — which are deeply symbolic:
- Purple represents dignity, serenity, and devotion, drawing inspiration from traditional Khmer aesthetics. The distinct shade of purple used in Air Cambodia’s branding is uniquely derived from a balanced integration of the three colors found in Cambodia’s national flag—blue, red, and white—in equal proportion. This symbolic composition differentiates our design from that of any other carrier. Furthermore, the golden emblem and signature purple hue reflect a proud historical lineage, tracing back to 1956 under the national flag carrier’s former name, “Royal Air Cambodge.”
- Gold symbolizes prosperity, pride, and Cambodia’s enduring cultural legacy.
The purple hue uniquely combines the colors of Cambodia’s national flag—blue, red, and white—in equal proportion, distinguishing it from others in the region.
The golden logo and core color scheme also draw historical continuity from Royal Air Cambodge, Cambodia’s former national flag carrier dating back to 1956.
2. Original and Independent Design
All elements of Air Cambodia’s visual identity—aircraft livery, uniforms, and branding—have been independently conceptualized and developed in compliance with international intellectual property and aviation trademark standards. Any perceived similarities with other airlines are purely coincidental and not indicative of imitation.
3. Commitment to Regional Cooperation
Air Cambodia maintains a spirit of strategic partnership and mutual respect with fellow carriers across the region. We are committed to advancing regional aviation growth through collaboration and cultural exchange.
4. Encouraging Constructive Dialogue
We welcome feedback from the public and aviation community and encourage such exchanges to occur through professional and appropriate channels. Constructive dialogue enhances understanding; speculative or viral commentary on social media may risk misinterpretation and does not reflect the full context of our brand heritage.
Air Cambodia remains proud of its distinct national identity and will continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, cultural integrity, and regional cooperation in all aspects of our operations.
