(Kandal): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed the strong commitment of the seventh-mandate Royal Government to working in close partnership with civil society organisations to combat exploitation and abuse of women and children.
The premier spoke on Wednesday (Jul. 23) during an official inauguration of the Lotus Centre, located in Takhmao City, Kandal Province.
“These initiatives are strongly encouraged by the Royal Government. Under the seventh mandate, we remain committed to supporting the efforts of our partners, including civil society and international organisations, in assisting vulnerable populations, particularly disadvantaged communities, impoverished groups, and women and children affected by abuse. This reflects our unwavering and ongoing commitment,” the premier underscored.
In this context, the premier reiterated the Royal Government's strong commitment to fight against all forms of abuse and exploitation, with the goal of improving the welfare of the population, especially women and children, who are most at risk.
Samdech Thipadei also expressed his appreciation to all partners who have supported the Cambodia Children’s Fund in fulfilling its mission. Samdech acknowledged that without such support, the organisation would not have been able to achieve the level of success it enjoys today.
Addressing the forum, the prime minister called on all ministries and institutions, authorities at every level, the private sector, civil society, development partners, and national and international organizations to step up their cooperation with the Royal Government in the nationwide campaign to combat all forms of abuse and exploitation.
Child Protection Unit was established in 2013 with the objective of providing comprehensive protection in investigations and support services for children who are victims of abuse, exploitation, and trafficking.
Furthermore, the Child Protection Unit operates with a long-term vision, a clear mission, and sound values. It continues to serve as a tripartite leadership model guiding the unit’s success in protecting Cambodian children through investigative and protective services for victims of various forms of abuse.
The premier added that the launch of the “Lotus Centre” represents a pioneering initiative that offers care, support, protection, and rehabilitation for victims of abuse. It stands as a unique institution in the Southeast Asian region, due to its victim-centred approach and its integration of modern technologies and advanced methodologies in investigation, research, and criminal analysis.
Moreover, the “Lotus Centre” aims to establish high operational standards both regional and international level, positioning itself as a model child protection centre with international recognition.
