(Phnom Penh): The Embassy of Russia in Cambodia hosted a screening of “The Star” dedicated to the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War on Saturday (May 9).

Russian Ambassador Borovik opened the event, “The 9th of May holds a special place not only in our national history.”

The victory over Nazism was the result of the tremendous efforts of many countries and peoples, and it was this victory that determined the further course of world history, paving the way for the creation of the modern system of international relations based on the principles of the UN Charter.

It is our duty to preserve the memory of those events, pass it on to future generations and oppose all forms of historical revisionism,” stated the head of the diplomatic mission in his welcoming speech.

The guests honored the memory of the perished with a Minute of Silence and laid flowers at the Obelisk to the Fallen Soldiers, followed by the screening of the film about the feat of Soviet scouts.

The event was attended by Eat Sophea, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, prominent Cambodian state and public figures, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Phnom Penh, members of the Association of Students from the Soviet Union, as well as diplomats of the embassy.
