(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet received a courtesy call from Sonexay Vannaxay, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Laos to Cambodia, at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh on Monday (May 11).

During the meeting, Ambassador Sonexay Vannaxay expressed his pride in his appointment and commended Cambodia's socio-economic development across various sectors, especially highlighting infrastructure development as a crucial catalyst for the nation's economic growth.

Cambodia and the Lao People's Democratic Republic have expressed satisfaction with the progress made in bilateral relations and affirmed their commitment to further enhancing and expanding cooperation across all sectors.

The Lao ambassador underscored the significance of close cooperation between Laos and Cambodia across all fields and emphasised the need to strengthen the comprehensive and long-lasting strategic partnership between the two neighbouring countries for the shared benefit of both nations.

Ambassador Vannaxay also extended his gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for its unwavering support to Laos, particularly during Laos' ASEAN Chairmanship in 2024 and throughout the challenging period of the COVID19 pandemic.

He pledged to work diligently toward further enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation across all sectors, while promoting the implementation of existing bilateral agreements for the mutual benefit of both peoples.

Moreover, he informed Prime Minister Hun Manet of preparations for celebratory events in Phnom Penh and Vientiane to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Laos in 2026.

In response, Prime Minister Hun Manet congratulated Ambassador Sonexay Vannaxay on his appointment and expressed confidence in the ambassador's ability to deepen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries during his diplomatic tenure in Cambodia.

Samdech Thipadei welcomed the ongoing progress in bilateral relations and reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to strengthening and expanding cooperation with Laos across all fields.

In addition, he encouraged the Lao ambassador to collaborate closely with relevant Cambodian ministries and institutions to promote cooperation across key areas, including trade, the economy, transportation infrastructure, agriculture, electricity, defence, and security.
