(Phnom Penh): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from Trinh Van Quyet, Politburo member and Chairman of Viet Nam’s Commission for Information, Education, and Mass Mobilisation, at the Senate Solidarity Palace in Phnom Penh on Wednesday morning (May 13).

During the meeting, Samdech Techo reaffirmed his ambition to expand bilateral trade between Cambodia and Viet Nam to USD 20 billion in the near future, with a longer-term target of USD 30 billion as trade continues to grow steadily year by year.

He acknowledged the visit as a vital step in further strengthening the friendship and collaborative ties between Cambodia and Viet Nam, particularly within the framework of political party relations, which contribute to sustained development and enhanced partnerships.

Trinh Van Quyet praised the growing ties between Cambodia and Viet Nam across legislative, executive, and people-to-people levels. He highlighted the frequent high-level exchanges between leaders of both countries as a reflection of their shared commitment to deepening bilateral relations.

He also noted that 2027 will mark the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Viet Nam, a milestone both sides are preparing to celebrate.

Both leaders stressed the importance of effective border cooperation in maintaining peace, stability, and security while improving livelihoods for communities along the shared border.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the remarks and reiterated Cambodia’s encouragement for border provinces to maintain close cooperation with their Vietnamese counterparts.

He emphasised that economic cooperation, trade, and investment remain at the core of Cambodia–Viet Nam relations. According to reports, bilateral trade reached approximately USD 11 billion in 2025, reinforcing confidence that the USD 20 billion target is achievable.

Samdech Techo also underscored the importance of expanding youth exchanges and cooperation to strengthen ties between younger generations in both countries.
