(Phnom Penh): The ASEAN Regional Mine Action Center (ARMAC) held a courtesy meeting with Wang Qing, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Head of Mission of the People’s Republic of China to ASEAN, to advance cooperation in humanitarian mine action.
China is one of ASEAN’s Comprehensive Strategic Partners and has continued to support ASEAN-centered regional cooperation, including initiatives related to regional connectivity, sustainable development, humanitarian cooperation, and people-to-people engagement.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on advancing ASEAN–China cooperation in humanitarian mine action, including regional capacity building, technical cooperation, innovation, and support for explosive ordnance (EO)-affected ASEAN Member States.
ARMAC expressed its appreciation for the support provided by the Government of the People’s Republic of China to ASEAN humanitarian mine action efforts. China’s contributions have supported regional cooperation initiatives, institutional development, and technical exchange.
The discussion also covered progress of the ASEAN–China regional initiative on the provision of essential equipment support for ASEAN Member States, which aims to strengthen operational capacity and enhance field response in EO-affected countries across the region.
ARMAC reaffirmed its commitment to serve as an ASEAN center of excellence in humanitarian mine action by promoting regional cooperation, technical exchange, capacity building, and knowledge sharing in support of affected ASEAN Member States.
Rothna Buth, Executive Director of ARMAC, expressed appreciation for China’s continued partnership, noting that:
“China has been a valued partner of ARMAC, contributing meaningfully to our regional cooperation initiatives, technical exchange, and institutional development. We deeply appreciate this support and look forward to deepening our practical collaboration in the years ahead.” Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue promoting practical and meaningful cooperation that contributes to regional peace, resilience, safety, and sustainable development.
