(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced plans to modernise military management by introducing bank-based salary payments for soldiers.

Speaking at the 19th Cambodian Veterans and Retirees Day on Friday, Samdech Thipadei said the Ministry of National Defence and Ministry of Economy and Finance are working together to develop a transparent, efficient, and secure banking system for military salary distribution.

“Stronger governance and management must accompany any reform. Strengthening military management entails further development under effective administrative mechanisms. We are considering various approaches, including organising salary payments through the banking system,” said the prime minister.

On the occasion Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also called for improvements to military healthcare, noting that soldiers are not yet covered by the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) equity card system. He urged relevant ministries to strengthen military clinics, increase medical supplies, and improve healthcare services for armed forces personnel.
