(Phnom Penh): The Ministry of Health confirmed on Monday (May 18) that Cambodia has not recorded any Ebola cases to date, while emphasizing that preventive and emergency response measures are already in place in case of any suspected infections.
The ministry’s statement follows recent Ebola outbreaks in Uganda, where the virus has caused infections and deaths. Cambodian health authorities said they are closely monitoring developments surrounding the situation.
The Ministry of Health also pledged to provide timely updates and guidance to emergency response teams, healthcare workers nationwide, operators of the 115 hotline, and the public through official social media channels.
The ministry has also prepared prevention and rapid-response plans for any potential Ebola cases in Cambodia.
Health officials advised the public to wash hands regularly, avoid contact with infected people, bodily fluids, contaminated items, and wild animals in outbreak areas, and use proper PPE when caring for suspected patients. Travelers returning from Ebola-affected areas such as Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo should monitor their health for 21 days and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as fever, fatigue, vomiting, or diarrhea appear.
