(Phnom Penh): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, received the credentials of Magdalini Nicolaou, who officially began her diplomatic mission as the new Ambassador of Greece to Cambodia.
During the ceremony at the Solidarity Palace in Phnom Penh on Tuesday morning, Ambassador Nicolaou described Cambodia as a country rich in beauty, history, and civilisation, noting that its culture shares similarities with that of Greece.
According to Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith, Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the ambassador and conveyed greetings from King Norodom Sihamoni on her appointment.
In her address Ambassador Nicolaou highlighted the significance of her appointment, noting that she is the first female Greek ambassador assigned to Cambodia. She expressed her commitment to strengthening and expanding bilateral relations between the two nations.
She also emphasized the long-standing historical and cultural connections shared by Cambodia and Greece, describing the common heritage between the two ancient civilizations as especially meaningful to her diplomatic mission.
In response, Samdech Techo Hun Sen echoed her remarks regarding the rich histories of both countries, praising the longstanding legacy of Greek civilisation, particularly its renowned philosophers and scholars.
Samdech Techo expressed optimism that Ambassador Nicolaou’s tenure would further enhance cooperation in trade, economic development, and other key sectors, while also deepening ties and mutual support between Cambodia and Greece on the international stage.
