(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet stated that the Royal Government seeks cooperation and mutual understanding in tax administration, speaking on Thursday (May 21) at the inauguration ceremony of the new headquarters building of the General Department of Taxation in Phnom Penh.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet noted that Cambodia’s current tax system allows room for consultation and mutual understanding between tax officials and taxpayers. However, he underscored that such flexibility should gradually transition toward clearer and more standardised implementation of tax laws.
“What our tax administration wants is mutual understanding between officials and taxpayers, rather than a relationship between fault-finders and wrongdoers,” he stated. “Both sides should become partners in implementing these principles in accordance with their respective duties.”
The prime minister added that both tax officials and taxpayers should work toward a shared understanding of tax codes, obligations, and responsibilities, with greater emphasis on fairness and equal application of the law.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei underlined the government will continue simplifying and expanding tax procedures to reduce complexity, uncertainty, and confusion for both businesses and tax authorities.
