(Phnom Penh): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, called for intensified efforts to combat the illegal smuggling of goods from Thailand, particularly through border areas.
He spoke on Sunday (May 24) during a meeting with leaders of ministries, institutions, and local councils across Phnom Penh.
Samdech Techo expressed serious concern over ongoing smuggling activities, specifically citing the illegal import of durians through border checkpoints in Battambang Province.
According to Senate Spokesperson Chea Thyrith, Samdech Techo underlined that Cambodia’s proposed anti-smuggling measures are consistent with World Trade Organization regulations.
He pointed out that Thailand was the first to impose restrictions on Cambodian goods, thereby exerting economic pressure on Cambodia.
