(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Ministry of National Defence reported that 22 rounds of unprovoked gunfire were fired by Thai military forces on Sunday morning (May 24) in the area of the O’Smach International Border Checkpoint.
According to an official report from Military Region 4 of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, the gunfire occurred between 9:24 a.m. and 10:10 a.m. in an area of Cambodian territory currently illegally occupied by Thai military forces.
In response, the Cambodian Military Region 4 Liaison Team submitted a formal protest letter to the Thai Army Area 2 Liaison Team, urging the Thai side to verify the incident, enforce stricter troop discipline, and fully comply with the Joint Statement of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee dated 27 December 2025.
