(Tboung Khmum): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said Cambodia has maintained stable electricity prices despite rising global energy costs triggered by tensions in the Middle East.

Speaking on Wednesday (May 27) in Tboung Khmum Province, the premier disclosed that Electricité du Cambodge (EDC) has incurred losses of approximately USD 80 million due to its commitment to maintaining stable electricity prices for consumers.

The prime minister noted that while many countries have raised electricity tariffs in response to surging fuel prices, Cambodia has prioritised price stability to protect household purchasing power and support economic resilience.

Meanwhile, Minister of Mines and Energy Keo Rottanak attributed Cambodia’s stable electricity prices to the country’s diversified domestic energy sources, including hydropower, solar energy, and other alternatives.

Disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz have also significantly affected several ASEAN countries that heavily rely on imported fuel, prompting calls for enhanced regional cooperation to address energy security challenges.
