(Tboung Khmum): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that National Road 7 is set to be officially inaugurated and opened for public use on 7 July 2026. This development follows the commencement of its reconstruction on 9 January 2023.

Speaking on Wednesday morning (May 27) in Tboung Khmum province, Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasised that the development of National Road 7 is part of broader national initiatives aimed at enhancing economic connectivity across regions and supporting agricultural and industrial transformation.

He noted, “Food security remains paramount. Our objective is to increase farmers’ incomes, irrespective of the types of crops, and to facilitate overall development that benefits our citizens.”

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei highlighted that improved infrastructure will play a critical role in transforming agricultural productivity into higher-value economic activities, including agro-industry, industrial zones, and special economic zones, ultimately generating employment and income for numerous families.

This infrastructure project is integral to Cambodia’s long-term strategy to modernise agriculture, bolster rural economies, and enhance connectivity.

Chinese Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) is constructing National Road 7 with Guangzhou Wanan Engineering Consultants providing technical oversight. The project includes the construction of a new 40-meter bridge (24 meters wide), six additional bridges totalling 106 meters, and widening an existing bridge. Advanced traffic monitoring systems have been effectively integrated, featuring speed cameras, AI-driven automatic weight inspection systems (Weigh-in-Motion), traffic signage, and enhanced road safety infrastructure.

Two-lane segments will be upgraded from Skun Roundabout to Kampong Cham town, with a 1.5-meter median strip separating the lanes. The total cost of the project is approximately USD 117 million, funded through concessional loans from the Government of China.
