(Tboung Khmum): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced the exemption of export taxes on tires produced in the country for international markets. This initiative aims to boost the competitiveness of local goods and improve pricing globally.
Speaking on Wednesday (May 27) in Tboung Khmum Province, the prime minister said the measure will help manufacturers increase profits, expand exports, and offer better prices for domestically sourced rubber.
“This policy will allow exports to be made tax-free, improving competitiveness and profitability while also benefiting farmers through higher agricultural incomes,” he said.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet noted that despite the potential loss of tax revenue, the government is prioritising broader economic gains, job creation, and improved livelihoods.
Cambodia’s tire exports reached more than USD 472 million in the first quarter of 2026, a 42.37 per cent increase compared to the same period last year, with the United States remaining the largest export market.
In 2025, tire exports totaled USD 1.38 billion, up 57.86 per cent year-on-year, driven by rising foreign investment and expanding manufacturing capacity.
