(New York): Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn met with Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, on the margins of the United Nations Security Council High-Level Open Debate in New York, according to a press release seen by Fresh News on Thursday (May 28).
The meeting followed up on the Trilateral Meeting between Cambodia, Thailand, and the Philippines, held on the sidelines of the 48th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, the Philippines, on 7 May 2026, during which the leaders tasked the foreign ministers of Cambodia and Thailand to discuss confidence-building measures and explore ways forward.
During the meeting, both sides had a frank and open exchange of views on the border situation between the two countries. Minister Prak Sokhonn reiterated Cambodia’s position regarding the initiation of compulsory conciliation under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea ( UNCLOS ) and called for the full and effective implementation, in good faith and with sincerity, of the Joint Statement of 27 December 2025 in its entirety.
Minister Prak Sokhonn also informed his counterpart that Cambodia stands ready to work with Thailand to implement the measures agreed upon by the two prime ministers in Cebu, in order to rebuild trust and work toward a just and lasting solution. In this spirit, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintain close and regular communication.
