(Phnom Penh): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State, announced that Cambodia's tax revenue has exceeded 53% of its 2026 annual target in the first five months of the year, generating more than USD 2 billion.

Speaking during a visit to the new General Department of Taxation headquarters on Tuesday (Jun. 2), Samdech Techo rejected claims that Cambodia is facing financial difficulties, saying recent criticism over the printing of a limited amount of currency was misleading.

He clarified that the issuance of approximately 5 billion riel, equivalent to just over USD 1 million, was intended primarily for ceremonial purposes and should not be interpreted as a sign of financial weakness.

He added that customs revenue has already surpassed USD 3.5 billion and underlined that the government has sufficient resources to meet all current expenditures.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen reaffirmed that Cambodia’s fiscal position remains strong and stable, rejecting allegations of financial instability.
