(Banteay Meanchey): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, urged opposition groups calling on the government to use military force against Thailand to consider the broader national consequences, reiterating that armed conflict would represent a political and diplomatic failure.

He spoke on Tuesday (Jun. 9) during his meeting with 3,318 displaced families at the Sla Kram Temporary Settlement in Svay Chek district, Banteay Meanchey province.

He stated that resorting to military force against Thailand, regardless of the size of the countries involved, would damage Cambodia’s standing in the eyes of the international community.

Samdech Techo also warned that war would bring heavy human and economic costs, including casualties among soldiers and civilians as well as widespread hardship for the population.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo reaffirmed Cambodia’s efforts to pursue peaceful solutions despite ongoing border tensions.

Cambodia and Thailand agreed to an immediate ceasefire effective from 12:00 noon (local time) on 27 December 2025 during the 3rd Special General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting held at the Prum–Ban Pak Kard border checkpoint.

According to the Joint Statement, both sides committed to halting all forms of armed attacks, including attacks on civilians, civilian infrastructure, and military targets. The agreement also stated that both countries must avoid unprovoked firing, troop advancement, or movement toward each other’s positions.
