(Banteay Meanchey): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, named the temporary settlement in Sla Kram village, Svay Chek district, Banteay Meanchey province, as “Waiting Village,” stressing that the move does not signify any abandonment of Cambodia’s territorial claims.
He spoke on Tuesday (Jun. 9) during his meeting with 3,318 displaced families at the Sla Kram Temporary Settlement in Svay Chek district, Banteay Meanchey province.
Samdech Techo explained that the establishment of the settlement is intended to provide temporary refuge and improve living conditions for people affected by ongoing border tensions. He added that the initiative does not mean the Royal Government of Cambodia is relinquishing its claims over disputed territory or compromising national sovereignty.
On the occasion, the acting head of state also reaffirmed that Cambodia does not recognise borders established through force or unilateral occupation. He reiterated the government’s continued commitment to protecting Cambodia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national interests in accordance with both national and international law.
