(Banteay Meanchey): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, announced that homes built at the Sla Kram Temporary Settlement will remain the permanent property of displaced families, even if their original land is reclaimed from Thailand in the future.
Speaking on Tuesday (Jun. 9) during a meeting with 3,318 displaced families in Svay Chek district, Banteay Meanchey province, Samdech Techo said the government has decided to grant ownership of the houses directly to residents for life.
He noted that despite owning vehicles and property, displaced families mainly wish to return to their original homes and livelihoods. He underlined the need to improve living conditions by transitioning families from temporary shelters into permanent housing.
Samdech Techo also highlighted a new “Beautiful Village and Clean Homes Competition” proposed by Agriculture Minister Dith Tina, offering prizes of USD 3,000, USD 2,000, and USD 1,000 for the best-maintained homes every three months.
