(Battambang): Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State of Cambodia, stated that Cambodia’s military equipment production is intended solely to strengthen national self-defence and reduce reliance on foreign imports, not to threaten or invade any country.

Speaking during his visit to a military uniform manufacturing factory in Battambang Province on Thursday afternoon (Jun. 11), Samdech Techo added that Cambodia’s growing defence industry serves defensive purposes and supports national self-sufficiency.

“Our military equipment is not designed to invade anyone; it is intended for self-defence,” he said. “In recent years, we have no longer needed to import supplies for our armed forces or police. We are now relying on domestic production, which replaces costly and difficult imports.”

Samdech Techo noted that since the establishment of the DSS factory, Cambodia’s armed forces and national police have been able to source uniforms, protective equipment, and body armour locally. He added that the factory also contributes to job creation for Cambodian workers returning from Thailand, while improving quality control and lowering production costs through local manufacturing as part of Cambodia’s national defence industry.

Looking ahead, he encouraged the future export of Cambodian-made military uniforms and related products. However, he stressed that exports must only take place through official government coordination and agreements with partner countries.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also encouraged the future export of military uniforms and related products manufactured in Cambodia. However, he stressed that exports should only be made to countries whose governments have officially coordinated and reached agreements with Cambodia.

He further highlighted the quality of Cambodia’s military protective vests, noting that Prime Minister Hun Manet has personally tested the equipment.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen also revealed that over the past three months, the Royal Government of Cambodia has ordered approximately USD 7.5 million worth of military uniforms from the DSS factory.
