(Phnom Penh): Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Chea Vandeth said the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPTC) must take the lead and serve as a model for other ministries and institutions in adopting artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to support Cambodia’s digital transformation.

The minister made the remarks while presiding over the closing ceremony of a training program titled “Using Artificial Intelligence to Enhance Work Efficiency on the Journey Toward Digital Transformation” on Thursday (Jun. 11). The program was attended by 993 ministry leaders and officials.

Speaking at the event, the minister said technological advancement is accelerating rapidly as the world enters the era of artificial intelligence, particularly Generative AI and large language models (LLMs).

He noted that AI is no longer a distant scientific concept or a technology of the future, but a tool that is already transforming workplaces and public administration at an unprecedented pace.

According to the minister, AI is reshaping how people think, analyse data and make decisions. Therefore, government leaders and civil servants should actively learn to use AI tools to improve work efficiency and strengthen public service delivery.

Chea Vandeth stated that MPTC, as the government institution responsible for leading digital technology development, must set an example for other ministries and institutions in adopting AI technologies responsibly and effectively. The goal is to maximise the technology's benefits while understanding and managing its associated risks, he added.

In this context, the minister underscored that organising AI training programs for ministry leaders and officials is essential to preparing Cambodia’s public sector for the digital transformation era.
