(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to its traditional friendship and long-lasting cooperation with Russia, according to Jean-François Tain, Minister Delegate Attached to the Prime Minister.

Samdech Thipadei’s remarks were made during a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit, held on 18 June 2026 in Kazan, Russian Federation.

“This year marks a milestone in our shared history as we celebrated 70 years anniversary of our diplomatic relations. Over past seven decades, Cambodia has attached great importance to traditional friendship and long-lasting cooperation with Russia. We always remember with deep gratitude and invaluable assistance and support of the former Soviet Union extended to Cambodia during our most difficult time in our history, following the immediate fall of the Pol Pot regime in 1979,” said Samdech Thipadei.

Minister Delegate Jean-François Tain noted that the prime minister’s message underscored Cambodia’s independent and balanced foreign policy amid an increasingly complex, uncertain, and volatile global environment.
