(Phnom Penh): Cambodia has been ranked the world's best country for land and resource sustainability in the 2026 Best Countries Rankings by U.S. News & World Report.
The Land and Resource Sustainability category assesses countries based on indicators including carbon emissions, deforestation, protected areas, sustainable trade, and water stress.
Cambodia topped the global rankings, followed by Slovenia, Paraguay, Latvia, Croatia, Laos, Slovakia, Ecuador, Seychelles, and Guatemala.
Among Southeast Asian nations, Cambodia also ranked first, ahead of Laos (6th globally), Myanmar (16th), Thailand (45th), Malaysia (46th), the Philippines (71st), Vietnam (72nd), Indonesia (74th), and Singapore (91st).
The Land & Resource Sustainability score evaluates how effectively countries manage and protect their natural resources. It incorporates measures including carbon emissions, deforestation, protected areas, sustainable trade, and water stress, and contributes to both the Natural Environment category and the overall U.S. News Best Countries rankings.
