(Phnom Penh): Prime Minister Hun Manet ordered relevant ministries to strengthen food quality inspections and national standards following a social media controversy over trout allegedly being sold as salmon.
Speaking at a gathering on Saturday (Jun. 27), Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet warned that dishonest practices by a single business could damage consumer trust across the entire market.
He instructed authorities to tighten oversight while streamlining unnecessary procedures, calling for more efficient, transparent enforcement and clearer quality standards.
The prime minister also urged businesses to uphold food safety, stressing that protecting consumers and maintaining confidence in Cambodian food products is a shared responsibility between regulators and the private sector.
