(Phnom Penh): Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced that Cambodia is seeking to attract a Western company to establish a regional logistics hub at Techo International Airport, as part of the government's strategy to strengthen the country's position as a regional transport and trade hub.
"We are currently working to attract a company from a Western country to establish a regional logistics hub at the new airport (Techo International Airport),” the premier said in a gathering with Cambodian SMEs on Saturday (Jun. 27).
The prime minister also highlighted ongoing customs reforms led by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. The reforms reduce reliance on mobile customs inspections while strengthening pre-import inspection procedures to improve efficiency and accountability.
Samdech Thipadei said the Royal Government's goal is to build a system focused on transparency rather than enforcement, with consumers ultimately benefiting from stronger oversight.
He added that newly introduced customs and tax incentives are serving as pilot initiatives for broader administrative reforms aimed at simplifying procedures and reducing processing times.
Techo International Airport, covering more than 2,600 hectares, is a Category 4F airport capable of handling long-haul intercontinental flights, including the Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 747-800. According to Cambodia's civil aviation authority, it ranks ninth globally among 4F airports and has been recognized as one of the world's 11 most influential architectural projects.
